You probably started your YouTube channel on your personal Gmail. It made sense at the time. But now, maybe you’re hiring an editor, selling the channel, or just want to stop your personal inbox from exploding with creator notifications.
Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t have a simple ‘change email’ button. To move your channel, you actually have to transfer ownership. It sounds technical, but it’s actually quite fast once you know the steps. Here is exactly how to move your channel to a new email address without losing your subscribers or views.

Why Transfer A YouTube Channel To Another Email?

Most creators start a channel on a whim, using their main personal email. That is fine when you have 50 subscribers. But once your channel starts growing, keeping your channel attached to your personal life becomes a massive liability.
Here are the real situations where moving your channel becomes absolutely necessary:
1. You Want to Sell the Channel (The Exit Strategy)
You might not plan to sell today, but what about in five years? Channels are digital real estate. If you ever get an offer to sell your channel for a lump sum, you cannot make the deal if the channel is glued to the Gmail you use for your bank statements and family photos. Transferring it now makes it a sellable asset later.

2. You Are Hiring a Team
Bringing on an editor or a thumbnail designing specialist is a great milestone. But you face a serious privacy issue: to give them full access, you often have to share your Google password. Do you really want your video editor to have access to your personal emails, Google Drive photos, and Amazon purchase history? Moving the channel separates your business from your personal life.
3. Security and Risk Management
If your personal email gets hacked, maybe you clicked a bad link in a spam email, the hackers get everything, including your YouTube channel. By moving the channel to a dedicated, secret email address that you use only for YouTube, you create a safety firewall. Even if your personal email falls, your channel stays safe.
4. Agency and Client Work
If you start a channel for a client or a specific project, you shouldn’t own it personally. It looks unprofessional to have a corporate brand linked to coolguy123@gmail.com. Transferring it to a business email ensures the ownership structure is clean, professional, and ready for hand-off if the contract ends.
2 Safe Ways To Transfer YouTube Channel To Another Email

There are mainly two methods to transfer YouTube channel to another email. Please note that Method 1 (YouTube Studio) only invites new emails to specific roles without fully transferring ownership. Method 2 transfers the account completely, allowing you to assign a new primary owner and permanently remove your original email. Choose Method 2 if your goal is a total handover.
Let’s check them out:
Method 1: Change Permissions from YouTube Studio
If you want a quick and simple way to give another email access to your YouTube account, this is the easiest method to start with. It works directly inside YouTube Studio and does not require converting anything or changing the account structure. Check out how to do it:
1) Go to YouTube Studio

2. Click Settings in the bottom-left corner
3) Select Permissions

4) Click on Invite in the top right corner
5) Enter the new email address you wish to add and select the role: Viewer or Editor.

6) The invitation email will be soon sent. Once accepted, the new email can access the channel through YouTube Studio. If it’s an editor account, it can:
✓ Upload videos
✓ Edit titles, descriptions, and thumbnails
✓ Manage comments
✓ View analytics
But please note that this method does NOT transfer ownership of the YouTube channel. The new email is only added as an Editor.
Here’s why this is not yet the best method for full account transfer:
- The original email still remains with the owner
- Monetization and payouts stay linked to the old email
- The editor cannot delete the channel or change ownership
- You cannot fully remove the original owner
Next, we’ll explain how you can fully transfer the ownership YouTube channel to a new email.

Method 2: Move To A Different Brand Account
This is the official and recommended method by YouTube. It lets you move ownership of a channel to another email without losing videos, subscribers, or earnings. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Open Brand Account Permissions
- Go to YouTube Studio

- Click Settings (bottom left)
- Select Permissions.
4. If the Permissions section looks like this, you’re in a Google account.

- But if the section looks like this, where you’ve two different sections, you’re in a Brand Account. You can skip to Step 4!

Step 2: Create A Brand Account
- Click on your profile and select Your Channel

- You’ll get redirected to your channel profile. Click Settings on the top right dropdown.

- Click add or manage channel(s).

- Tap on create a channel.

- Actually, you’re creating a brand account now. Name it something like this and hit the Create Channel button!

The channel (brand account) will be created. Most probably, you’ll be logged out now. Sign in back to your Google account linked with the channel.

Step 3: Move Your Channel
- Click on Settings in YouTube

- Go to Advanced settings
- Click on Move Channel

- You need to sign in through your Google account once again for verification.
- Then, this section opens up. You’ll see the list of Brand Accounts associated with your channel.

- Click on the Replace button next to Brand Account you’ve created just now. You’ll see a popup like this.

Note: Since this is a brand new channel created for this purpose, it’s completely fine to click on Delete Channel. It just refers to the newly created one with no data. Ultimately, it gets replaced with your original channel data!
- Click on Move Channel to replace your new channel with the original channel.

Note: As mentioned in the screenshot, most of your analytics data and permissions given to external users will be lost. You need to re-invite them again!
Step 4: Add the Owner
- Sign in to your brand account on your YouTube Studio.
- You may get a welcome message like this. Click on Continue.

- Select Settings and Permissions again
- It will look like this (for Google Account users). Click on Opt out of Permissions.

- Tick both boxes and confirm by clicking on Opt Out again

- Now, your permission page will look like this. Click on Manage Permissions.

- Click on Manage Permissions again.

- Click on Add User icon on top right.

- Type in the new email address, which you would like to invite as the new owner and click on Owner from the dropdown list. Hit the Invite button

- That address will now get an email to be the owner of the channel. Accept it.

Step 5: Be The Primary Owner (Optional)
Now, if you want to be the sole owner of the channel, you need to wait 7 more days after accepting the invite. Then, follow these steps:
- Click on Manage Permissions

- Set the role of your brand account from Owner to Primary Owner

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. How to transfer YouTube account ownership?
You cannot transfer a personal channel directly; you must first convert it into a Brand Account in your Advanced Settings. Once converted, simply invite the new email address as an Owner, wait the mandatory 7-day security period, and then switch them to Primary Owner.
2. Can you change the email address linked to a YouTube account?
No, you cannot just edit the email because your channel is hard-coded to your original Google Account. The only workaround is to move the channel to a Brand account and then transfer ownership to a new Google account, effectively swapping the email.
3. Does transferring a YouTube channel delete comments?
It’s a mixed bag. The comments other people left on your videos stay safe. However, the comments you wrote on other channels using your personal profile will likely disappear, along with your personal watch history.
4. Can I transfer a monetized channel?
Yes, your monetization status (Partner Program) moves with the channel. However, the AdSense account is separate. You will either need to keep the old AdSense linked or strictly follow AdSense rules to link a new one after the transfer.
5. How long does the transfer take?
The technical part takes 5 minutes, but the security wait is the real time-consumer. Google forces you to wait 7 full days after adding a new owner before you can make them the Primary Owner.
6. Can you transfer YouTube account to another email from mobile through the app?
You cannot complete this transfer using the standard YouTube or YT Studio mobile apps. However, you can open a web browser on your phone, switch to the Desktop site view, and access your advanced channel settings to finish the process.
Conclusion
Your YouTube channel is a real asset. Keeping it trapped inside your personal Gmail is like keeping your business cash in your personal wallet. It works for a while, until it gets messy.
Moving your channel to its own dedicated email is the most professional approach. Now, you can hire editors without giving them your personal password, and you can even sell the channel one day if you ever decide to exit.
One final rule: Turn on 2-Step Verification for that new email immediately. You just went through all this trouble to secure your channel. Don’t leave the front door unlocked! 🔓
